Calendula Petals | (Calendula officinalis) | 25g
Habitat and Description:
This annual is frequently produced from seed in gardens. It has huge, many, juicily formed oval leaves that range in colour from rich orange to yellow gold, depending on the variety of Calendula grown.
Naturally, it enjoys a lot of light and loves a soil that is generally well drained.
Calendula has long been a favourite garden flower, and for good reason—it is both lovely and helpful, and it has a habit of blooming for most of the year.
The seeds are rather distinctively curled, pale brown, and coarse in texture. If kept dry, they keep quite well for quite a long period.
Any herb or plant that has the designation “officinalis” is acknowledged to have important medical advantages. When used in medicine this is what it means.
Calendula was regarded as a magical herb as well as a culinary and medicinal one during the Middle Ages. It has been used to make dyes, flavour food, treat wounds, and even help people celebrate the winter solstice, when the sun deity is said to be reborn.
In the same way that flowers open to follow the sun as it moves across the sky each day, they also appear in sacrifices made to ancestors during the Day of the Dead celebration in Central America and as a sign of delight to the Romans, Hindu gods, and goddesses.
Calendula is often regarded as safe with no known contraindications.
Since calendula has historically been used to induce menstruation, avoid using it internally while expecting.
Calendula is a member of the aster family, which means that certain persons who are extremely sensitive to plants like ragweed (Ambrosia spp.) and chamomile (Matricaria recutita) may experience an adverse reaction while taking calendula for the first time.
Infrequent cases of allergic contact dermatitis have been linked to calendula topical usage.
